Tests Available at Altus Lab

1

TB-PCR (Sputum, BAL, Pleural Fluid, Blood, CSF)

Molecular detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis — sensitive, specific, results in 24–48h

2

TB Drug Resistance (MTB + Rifampicin Resistance by GeneXpert)

Detects RIF-resistant TB (proxy for MDR-TB) in real-time

3

Sputum AFB Smear (ZN Stain) & Culture (LJ/MGIT)

Classical TB diagnosis — culture remains gold standard for drug susceptibility

4

Sputum Gram Stain & Culture

Community-acquired pneumonia pathogen identification

5

Pleural Fluid Analysis (LDH, Protein, Glucose, ADA, Cytology)

Exudate vs transudate differentiation; ADA elevation highly specific for TB pleuritis

6

BAL (Bronchoalveolar Lavage) Analysis

Cellular differential and culture for interstitial lung disease and opportunistic infections

7

Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) – Pleural, CSF, Pericardial

Highly sensitive and specific for tuberculous effusions

8

Quantiferon TB Gold Plus (IGRA)

Interferon-gamma release assay — preferred TB diagnosis in BCG-vaccinated individuals

9

(1-3)-Beta-D-Glucan Assay (BDG / Fungitell)

Broad-spectrum fungal infection screen — important in immunocompromised patients with pulmonary infiltrates

10

Galactomannan Antigen EIA

Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis — early diagnosis in neutropenic patients

11

Serum ACE (Angiotensin Converting Enzyme)

Sarcoidosis diagnosis and monitoring

12

KL-6 (Krebs von den Lungen-6)

Interstitial lung disease activity marker

13

CEA, CYFRA 21-1, NSE, ProGRP (Lung Tumour Markers)

Non-small cell and small cell lung cancer panels for staging and monitoring

14

Total IgE & Specific IgE Panel (Allergens)

Allergic asthma and environmental allergen identification

15

CBC with Differential (Eosinophilia Panel)

Eosinophilic lung disease screening

16

ABG (Arterial Blood Gas) Interpretation Support

We provide ABG analysis panels including Lactate, pH, pCO2, pO2, HCO3

17

Anti-CCP & RF (Rheumatoid Lung)

Pulmonary manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis

Frequently Asked Questions

TB-PCR (molecular testing) detects Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA in a sample and delivers results within 24–48 hours. A traditional culture takes 4–8 weeks for Mycobacterium to grow. PCR is preferred for rapid diagnosis, while culture remains essential for drug susceptibility testing.
Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme that is significantly elevated in tuberculous pleural, pericardial and CSF effusions. An elevated ADA (>40 U/L in pleural fluid) is highly suggestive of TB pleuritis with over 90% sensitivity and specificity, saving time before culture results are available.
Quantiferon-TB Gold Plus (IGRA) is generally preferred because it requires only a single blood draw, is not affected by prior BCG vaccination, and has superior specificity. It is the test of choice for healthcare workers, immunocompromised individuals, and recent TB contacts.
Blood-based pulmonology tests (CBC, serum ACE, tumour markers, IgE, Quantiferon) are all available via our free home collection service. Sputum and BAL specimens need to be collected at the lab or at the clinical site with guidance from our team.
Sputum Gram stain results are available in 24–48 hours. TB culture on LJ medium takes 4–8 weeks; liquid MGIT culture gives results faster in 2–3 weeks. We will keep you updated on progress and flag any critical results immediately.
